Okay, FG. You have stumped us. Clare and I are chatting right now, trying to figure out what this is! It reminds me of those of those What Is It? close-up photos in nature magazines.
My bet is rock that hs hd wter seep in nd then freeze which hs caused the rock to break?Am I right? That is great mystery photo!
LOL Amy hehhehe
It looks kind of like bricks, though. Like part of an old wall or something?
Is is where you chop your wood? It looks like you've got little chips chopped out, but then, what do I know? I live in an apartment.
Okaaay, so it appears to be some kind of rock. One that is starting to come apart along some awfully regular lines. Almost looks like crystals of some sort. Could it be sandstone maybe? That tends to come apart in sheets kinda like that.Someone call a geologist!
Hi All,Okay, it's a large rock (maybe three or four feet across) that is up along the edge of the driveway. I've never seen any other rocks like it. It appears to be just sitting there, falling to pieces. Haven't used it as a chopping block, don't think it's been frozen or wet any more than all the other rocks around. Anyway, I just thought it looked cool. I put the second photo up to give some perspective. What can I say? Maybe something was lost between the driveway and the computer. I come upon lots of (what I think are) interesting things in the woods. Sometimes I'm surprised by the amazing response they receive, and, well, sometimes there are obviously a whole bunch of people out there thinking, "What's with the rock?" : )
Oh, I definately think it's interesting! I'd probably take a picture of it myself if I came across a rock looking like that. I'm just curious as to what kind of rock it is and what makes it fall apart like that!
