I love all that goes with the change in season; cooler evenings, lovely fall produce, a crisp smell in the morning air etc. Cheers! I didn't understand why they were laughing at me. Cripes! The mattress company is Serta not Sealy. Geez! So I want to add another name (the CORRECT)one of Serta instead of Sealy. UGH. I was so focused on how cute those commercials are I got the company name wrong. What can I say, I wanted a sheep, not a mattress. lol!vlb5757https://www.blogger.com/profile/05444876262831798051noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12997259.post-1129105720671647622005-10-12T03:28:00.000-05:002005-10-12T03:28:00.000-05:00Hi Susan: Sam beat me to the punch about San Franc...Hi Susan: Sam beat me to the punch about San Francisco...hope you had a great trip, welcome back!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12997259.post-1129088551708995482005-10-11T22:42:00.000-05:002005-10-11T22:42:00.000-05:00Hello, hello farm friends!Wow. This is the first t...Hello, hello farm friends!
Wow. This is the first time I've been at the computer since this morning. What a wonderful surprise to find so many responses to this photo. Thank you all so much for your kind words and for taking the time to write.

As far as this mist is concerned, I've realized that it's rather deceiving in photos. It's not cold at all. In fact, we have more misty mornings during the hot and humid summer months than in the winter. This summer was exceptionally misty!

Unlike fog, which 'rolls' in from somewhere, (or at least that's what it did in the SF Bay Area where I grew up), this mist starts to form at ground level, usually in early evening. By the next morning, our little valley is enveloped in it. Sometimes it's so thick the hayfield behind the house (which I am so fond of photographing) completely disappears, as do the surrounding hills. The only thing visible from the sheep barn is the faint glow of their nightlight.

If you would like to see some other misty photos I've posted, click here, here, and here (this last one is the hayfield view I'm so fond of).

Michelle & Kristi,
Interesting about the Ireland comment, as I am half Irish but have never been there. I think I would do very well in that climate! : )

Ilva-lucullian delights,
Welcome to the farm! Nope, as I explained, the mist is not brrrr. Sure looks that way, though. And it is finally cooling down here--even had the first frost a few mornings ago.

Heather & Elizabeth,
This is a morning shot of the sheep heading out for breakfast. They have a whole circuit they travel, and it usually starts out with them walking up the driveway toward the front gate to the front field, then working their way back through the (dry) creekbed to the house, and then behind the house into the hayfield, etc. etc.

As soon as the sun hits the mist it starts to burn off. It's not a sign of rain, though when it's very thick it's almost a drizzle. Most days it turns blazing hot and sunny and clear as can be. It's a little disconcerting sometimes.

Mijo,
Not to worry--Yellow 21 (or any of the other sheep) won't get lost. I count and count and count (and search and search and search) until I come up with the correct number each night! : )

Cookiecrumb & Kat,
Good one!

Kat,
What do we do with the sheep? Well, spoil them rotten, count them a lot, cater to their every whim, and um, well, eat them. (And sell them to other people who eat them.)

Dread Pirate Roberts,
You aren't too late to enter the Name That Sheep contest, but somebody beat you to 'Lambchop' as an entry. Any other ideas?

Hi Karen,
Thank you so much. Yes, Weekend Dog Blogging is lots of fun--glad you joined in. : )

Hi Sam,
Yep, that and the lack of an ocean.

Hi Brigitte,
Your entry of the name Insomnia has been officially received!

Hi Vickie,
Welcome to the farm! Okay, I'll put down your entry of Sealy. Too bad we don't get TV reception down in our little valley so I haven't seen the commercials you mentioned. : (

Hi Punky,
Nice to hear from you. Oh my, Monty Python. I think it's too late to go there tonight. : )

And a final note of apology to the new visitors who left comments recently asking me specific questions which I have not yet answered. I have not forgotten you! I am hoping to have a catch up day tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Goodnight, everyone. The sheep are tucked in and I need to be, too. Thanks again for writing.Farmgirl Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04851855517852917202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12997259.post-1129082410358387232005-10-11T21:00:00.000-05:002005-10-11T21:00:00.000-05:00Wow, what a great picture.
