Especially when you see how much the chicks learn from their mama if they're raised with her. Amazing little chicken instincts. :)

Sandra,
This hen is so cute. She's always all puffed up - partly because she's being protective, but partly because she's not very big and is sitting on a huge pile of eggs. The other hens just keep hopping in her box and laying more. :)

Melissa and Barb,
We're about halfway moved in! Hopefully I'll have an update soon. In the meantime, living in two places at once is a total pain - even if they are only 200 feet apart. ;)Farmgirl Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04851855517852917202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12997259.post-7177837590127874642011-09-12T15:24:07.756-05:002011-09-12T15:24:07.756-05:00Mom is beautiful! and that chick is just too adora...Mom is beautiful! and that chick is just too adorable!! I do everything I can to make it easier and I get upset everytime BUT sometimes (always) at least one doesn't make it. We're totally withougt our bore at the moment so I'm carting water to everyone here (as we head into Aussie summer). We have some new hatchlings ourselves, but unfortunately they aren't allowed to stay with momma, because they would never survive into adulthood (farm life can be perilous). But it is the mail-order babies that always get me..... How can a ball of fluff on two tiny toothpicks arrive in a box, without food or water for up to two days, be shown water one time and from then on they know exactly how to become a chicken? Sure makes us humans look like slow learners!Blue Pony Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16139100054383784682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12997259.post-81333983551402038332011-09-11T19:09:55.115-05:002011-09-11T19:09:55.115-05:00Good changes and big things accomplished?
