The thing is, that bucket of food is actually for Daisy and Marta, our big livestock guardian dogs who live with the sheep. It's sitting on the flatbed trailer so the two smaller (sneaky, thieving, overfed treat hound) dogs will know it isn't for them. And there they are being so good, minding their own business, ignoring those meaty bones, when Kit Kat just leaps right up there and starts licking. They couldn't believe it.

Good dogs! No beagle of mine could (or would) resist that temptation. Do you suppose it might be a fear of the mighty Kit Kat instead?

ReplyDeleteDo you feed Marta and Daisy a raw food diet? It was difficult to tell what was in the bucket but it looked like raw poultry? If so, have you ever had any trouble with it? Thanks.

DeleteMarta and Daisy (and Bear and Bert) don't eat a strictly raw food diet, but they do get a fair amount of raw meat and bones and some raw vegetables, like grated organic carrots or chopped greens from the garden mixed into their food.
We haven't had any trouble, but we only feed them raw meat that was raised by us or by friends - I wouldn't feed my animals commercial raw meat from the supermarket. Daisy and Marta also eat some meat they kill themselves - this week it's fresh armadillo (blech). :)
If Bert could ever actually catch the rabbits he spends several hours a day tracking, he would eat them. ;)
We give all the dogs (and cats who hunt) very strong wormer pills once or twice a year that we get from the vet.
We also feed the dogs some of the raw Jersey milk and cream that we buy each week from friends, along with a lot of raw eggs from our hens, which are a great source of easily digestible protein. This, along with other treats, some vegetables, and organic supplements, is all in addition to dog kibble.
Our farm dogs eat very well! :)
I'm feeding my cats a new raw cat food made from local farmed chicken. They love it and are so healthy. I do it because my cats are indoor city cats.
