Tuesday Dose of Random Critter Cute

Random critter cute (1) - FarmgirlFare.com

Now that the months of devastating heat and drought have finally come to an end (and I'm not quite as under the weather as I was all summer), I've started carrying around my camera and seeing pictures again.

I'm hoping to get back to posting the weekly Friday Farm Fix soon so I can better share what's been happening around here (and better keep track for us of what happens when). This is my favorite time of year on the farm. And the photos, along with the leaves, are thankfully starting to pile up.

More photos below. . .

1. Young chickens taking over Rooster Andy's coop while he and his three hens are out free ranging.

2. Chicks dig chard.

3. Mr. Midnight, garden supervisor.

4. Misbehaving donkeys being led to jail the secure front field. (The other night they broke into the farmyard, ransacked the bin of chicken feed, and made a big mess. There's nothing like rounding up seven delinquent longears at four-thirty in the morning—and then forgetting to shut the gate so they went right back in as soon as we went back to bed.)

5. Munching on the turnips, rape, wheat, and millet we planted a few weeks ago as an experimental source of early autumn sheep greens. We scattered 50 pounds of deer food plot seed mix from the feed store over about a half acre of already established grass and weeds in a fenced pen and, thanks to some well timed rain, it came up nicely. The sheep are eating it, but they're not loving it. We may end up putting the donkeys in there for a while.

6. On the mole patrol!

© FarmgirlFare.com, coming in for a fall landing—and thrilled to see all that green.

  2. You're a talented writer, a creative photographer, and an inspired "farm person". I hope those facts make a previously discouraging summer seem a distant memory. Thanks for the things you do for those of us who really love your work.

  5. Just what I was thinking as I looked at the photos, nice to see green instead of brown for a refreshing change.

  7. I check out your blog every single day, always hoping to see something new. From your posts, it sounds like you and Joe had a tough summer and have had to make some adjustments going into the winter. I also understand that you weren't feeling quite up to par. Now it seems that you're a bit more optimistic and that's always good to see. Know you're not in it alone....you'd be surprised how helpful we virtual strangers can be!

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
