Holding on for dear life or just hanging out? (click on photo to enlarge)

So it finally rained. A lot. Like three inches in twenty-four hours. Thank goodness.

  1. Great picture!!
I'm guessing he was hanging on but now that the rain stopped he's just hanging out.
I've always wondered what the insects did for shelter during rain.

Congratulations on the rain - hope it comes our direction.

  2. Is that poppy? My new poppies are dying. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Too much sun? Too much water? Bad luck? Glinda the good witch interfered?

  4. Dear FG,

Your blog is such a joy. Like you, I hope to move onto a farm after years of being in the city life. Funny thing, I started out on a farm in Pennsylvania, leading a life much like yours! I moved for an education, but now miss the country every day.

Please keep writing about your life on an organic farm for those of us who long to be on a farm instead of a small apartment in the city.

  6. I just wanted you to know that you inspired me to plant a garden this year. I have never planed a garden - only a few plants in containers. My garden is very small, but everything in it is just growing like crazy! I now love coming home and watering and weeding and just noticing how much everything has grown. I look forward to my harvest. I'm already using the herbs I planted. YUM! Nothing like sliced potatos with rosemary on the grill. I also made a beer can chicken stuffing thyme, rosemary and parsley between the skin. Oh, and my husband brewed some all-grain beer. Mmmm.

Thanks for the inspiration! And, thanks for sharing some of your life stories on your blog.

  8. Seeing the poppy made me laugh a little,,, My mother has taken clumps of poppies for transplant several times from our beds. They keep passing on her, but my dogs will dig into our beds to kill voles leaving a WWI landscape behind and they come back thicker. I've tried to get her to take the dogs with her as well.

  9. I love your blog!
I think Poppy is bashful about being photographed just out of the shower.

  11. Your poppy is beautiful. I'd love to grow them--much to hot here. The tomatoes, eggplant and squash are coming on like crazy. Wish we could swap for bread!

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
