Farmhouse White Cooling On The Counter

  1. Hmm. Did you make that?
I just made bread this morning and it doesn't look nearly as good as that.
Having a loaf tin might help of course.

    Next time. Must try harder...

  2. Thanks so much. Yep, I baked three loaves yesterday. J lives on this stuff. (I love the fact that bread freezes so well.)

Loaf tins definitely help if you're making sandwich bread! Mine are 8"x4". I bet your bread tastes great no matter what shape it is. What kind did you make?

I have two 2-pound loaves of pain au levain cooling right now (waiting, waiting), but they aren't up to a photo.

Am I the only person who thinks bread, butter, and salt is a well-rounded meal? (Well, wine, too, of course.)

    it was my lunch
i added 'salt' to my bread and butter in the form of 'marmite'!!

  4. LOL, I just inhaled the heel of one of the pain au levain loaves, (okay, plus another slice). . . even though the butter was still frozen (poor planning on my part, how embarrassing).

Good to know somebody is keeping the marmite people in business!

  5. Lovely loaves. But I really must object to Sam's desire to put marmite on them. How about something that everyone can enjoy? Nutella, perhaps?

  6. Who needs bread if you have Nutella?

  7. P.S. Nic,
I knew it! You ARE the one who made that divine looking Nutella biscotti. Can't wait to try it. So many tempting recipes, so much drool to clean off the keyboard. . .

  9. Hi,
I was wondering if the recipe for Farmhouse bread was on the site? I can't find but I'm new to this site so maybe I'm not looking in the right place. It looks so wonderful!
    Thanks.

  10. Susan:

I have had this recipe saved forever in my bread recipe desktop file and finally tried it a few days ago. I had just been the grocery store where an average loaf of sandwich bread is now going for about $3.79 a loaf! I've made lots of artisan bread but never just a plain sandwich loaf. I had purchased the Chicago Loaf pans sometime ago in anticipation. Let me tell you, this bread is amazing! It rose up beautiful and high and golden. The texture is great. So now I guess I won't be buying ANY type of that icky old grocery bread. Thanks for a great recipe.
