  2. Even our trees here near the beach got the memo that it's time for fall. I am so happy it's fall. It's my most favorite time of the year. I love the craft sales and scads of pumpkins at the Farmer's Market. There is always something fun going on every weekend.

  4. Hi Farmgirl! This is my first comment, but I have been loving your website.
You are living one version of my ideal life! But believe me I know how much work it is. I visited Missouri in the Springfield area many years ago and fell in love with it. Like you I was born and raised in California. Do you get the two questions I ALWAYS got from the folks in Missouri, on hearing I was from California "Do you surf?" and "Aren't you scared of earthquakes?" They were sure if you were from California you were a surfer! (I was not.)
I think of retiring in Missouri and getting my farm then. Any tips?

    Enjoy the wonderful season!

    Nancy

  6. Hi BabyBull40,
    Why thank you.

    Hi Vickie,
I do believe you were one of those who ordered more fall color. : )

    Hi AverysMom,
Oh, the chickens have had their blog time alright. (And I'm sure they'll have more.) In the meantime, click here for a post that is cluck full of links to other priceless poultry moments.

    Hi Nancy,
So glad you came out of hiding to say hello! Surprisingly enough, I can't recall ever being asked the surfing question--or the earthquake question now that I think about it. (There also happens to be a big fault in Missouri though there aren't frequent earthquakes here like in CA). The question I get asked most when people find out I am from California is "Why in the world did you move here?"

As for tips re retiring to a Missouri farm:

    1. Bring a lot more money than you think you'll need.

    2. Buy now. Retirees are flocking to rural Missouri, and land prices are going up, up, up.

    3. Be prepared to live among some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

    Hi Tree,
    Thanks!

  7. I wonder if you realize how many people are living their country girl fantasies, vicariously-through you!

Thank you for sharing your life, your photos, your writing, and the beautiful, beautiful lil' sheep that I just want to eat up! Oh no, wrong choice of words.....not eat up as in lambchops! Just eat up as in cuddle and love and let live in my backyard!!!

  9. Re: retirees -- that's what my father did, although he lived in a city. He moved south (from Wisconsin) to quit shoveling snow.

  10. Hi Farm Girl!

I thought that you might be interested that your blog was mentioned at the 'Life After the Oil Crash' in his Section VIII. Preparation and Relocalization' at:

I have no idea how the author found you but you now have a much greater audience than you imagined.

Beautiful pictures! And interesting stories of life down on the farm.

    I'll come visit again!

  12. Gorgeous. We took a very hard, very early frost here in Southern WI a few weeks back and seem to have missed the maples color this year.

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
