Update: A Place To Bark & The America's Giving Challenge $50,000 Grant
A huge thank you to all of you animal lovers who have so kindly donated to Bernie Berline's A Place To Bark non-profit animal rescue during this exciting and important fund drive. Bernie is absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity from around the world, and the Zoline Foundation is so thrilled by the tremendous response that they've upped their $25,000 matching donation (which has already been matched!) to $35,000.

Right now A Place To Bark is in second place in the Giving Challenge, but the competition is quickly gaining on us, and only the four charities with the largest number of donations (not the highest amount of money donated) will win the $50,000 grant. These last two days will be crucial. All it takes to help Bernie realize her dream of constructing a shelter building for the hundreds of animals she rescues each year is a $10 tax-deductible donation made through A Place To Bark's Six Degrees badge, which you can find at the A Place To Bark blog or on my previous post: A Place To Meow, A Place To Bark, Another Phone Call From A Foodie Farmgirl, More Prizes, & How To Turn Ten Dollars Into Fifty Thousand. 100% of all donations go directly to the animals.

Everyone who donates will automatically be entered in a drawing for all sorts of wonderful prizes, including signed copies of books and beautiful original works of art created by Bernie and other talented artists.

In addition, I'll be holding two separate drawings: one for a half hour phone call from this foodie farmgirl (we'll chat about whatever you like) and one for a signed copy of the fun new cookbook, The Cornbread Gospels, by Crescent Dragonwagon. Simply leave me a comment or send me an e-mail (farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com) letting me know you made a donation to A Place To Bark and if would like to be entered in one or both of the drawings. Again, thank you!

  1. Hi--just wanted you to know, first of all, that I simply adore your blog. You're living a life many of us think we want to live, and I so admire you for actually doing it. I did donate to A Place to Bark--when I look at her site, I cry, every time . . . there is a place in heaven for her and all animal rescuers. Thanks! (How's Cary?)

  4. As with so many treasures, I stumbled across your site by a happy accident. I clicked on a link for a bran muffin recipe on another site and found myself here. The recipe looked great, but I was instantly intrigued by the rest of the content on your blog and immediately subscribed to your feed. I love your writing style and am eager to read more. Just wanted to let you know that I made a donation to A Place to Bark - what a wonderful organization, and kudos to you for helping it receive a much-needed and deserved grant. Happy Wednesday!

  9. Hi, again. I left a comment the other day. Just wanted to let you know that I've made a donation to "A Place To Bark". It's a great cause even though I'm in Canada and can't benefit from the donation - that doesn't matter. It's the fact that someone cares enough to be doing this - thanks to you for promoting them. I made my donation for Topaz since she's just so darned cute!!! :-) Thanks again!

  10. The hay bales in the background appeared to me as visages of farm animals past?

  11. Hay!

We're on our yearly ski road trip again, so my "Hay!" skills are at their peak.

Looks like you got some snow in your neck, too - cheers.

  12. Susan,
I recently discovered your blog & year-in-bread. I've very quickly had to become a serious baker due to my kids having some food allergies (cow's dairy, soy, corn, etc). Anyway, I've been frantically baking some pretty terrible bread for weeks...that is until I discovered Farmhouse white! I made mine with water (haven't tried it with goat's milk..yet), substituted sunflower oil for the canola (because my boys can't eat conola) and I used dry active yeast (proofed it in the sugar water and then proceeded accordingly). It's a HIT!!!!! Everyone can it and everyone loves it! Best of all it's not like the bricks I have been baking. I'm gonna try the oatmeal bread next and can't wait to try the pear muffins, and the pitas, and the... Thanks for making my life a little bit easier. Wait, did I say easier? I baked my first three loaves last night til 1:00 a.m. and I'm on the autolyse step of my second batch. Can't wait to have a few loaves in my freezer so that I don't have to stress over what bread I'm gonna use for toast and sandwhiches for my family. Keep the bread recipes coming and thank you very, very much.

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
