You did it! Between Sunday and Monday we got a half inch of beautiful
birthday rain.
Thank you. It's definitely a start. Dare I ask for more?
It isn't supposed to be quite as hot this week
('only' in the 90s), and my
hunky farmguy Joe says when the mist comes up like it did last night, it's like getting another quarter inch of rain.
There still isn't any hay to cut in the hayfield, and a lot of the grass out there has completely died, but we haven't completely given up hope yet. If we keep getting rain on a regular basis, there's a chance we might be able to cut some late summer hay. We need at least 600 bales; last year we put up just under 900, most of it in June.
The sheep are still out foraging for food in the woods. Hooves, paws, and fingers crossed that the grass in Donkeyland and the front field (where the sheep are supposed to be grazing through fall) starts growing.

FarmgirlFare.com, where this morning's photo shoot was followed by a small but tasty locally grown apple (the rest of the bag is going into a pie), a large bowl of juicy Missouri melon chunks, and (a little while later) a hunk of leftover birthday cake.
Urp.
See? it is not told you that my raindance always work?

ReplyDeleteI can feel the relief from here.
Happy HAPPY Birthday! Raindances all around :)
Happy Birthday Susan!
ReplyDeleteSo very glad you got a bit of rain and also that it is a bit warmer here in the PNW of the USA. I am really afraid to wish for more for either of us as then it could be too much. Just be glad to receive whatever we can.
ReplyDeleteYou have taken many beautiful photos over the years but I think this particular collection, maybe because of its significance, is the most beautiful of all.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for your rain!
Nice, very glad to hear. Gorgeous morning!
ReplyDeleteWishing I could send you some of the rain we're getting over here in the UK. Could you send our farmers some sunshine in return?
ReplyDeleteLove those misty pictures! I can almost feel the coolness! :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you Susan! It rained off and on this wkend here too. Not much. Maybe an inch. Thought of you and Joe---and all your critters. It is awful to have it rain on everyones place---xcept yours.
ReplyDeleteWe sat on the porch steps and watched it come across the hills. And stayed sittin' as it poured all over us. Wonderful wet cool rain. Take care----T
Beautiful misty photos. Reminds me of Oregon mist. Keeping my fingers crossed that you get more rain. We are just now putting in our hay after endless June rain. Yes, I would have shared if I could.
ReplyDeleteBeauty in the mist! So happy the rain came, if only for a little bit. Your breakfast sounds pretty heavenly to me.
ReplyDeleteWe won't give up on some more rain for you, but just that good, gentle soaking kind. We could use it too. I heard somewhere that over half the country is in a drought. Then there s the other part tat has too much. Wouldn't it just be great if we could somehow even it all o ut?
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful, happy birthday'
Rainy birthday wishes coming your way!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful. I am an amateur watercolorist. Do you have any objections to my painting and exhibiting work based on those photos?

Hi Maggie,
DeleteThanks for your interest in painting my photos. Because I get quite a few requests from artists, I do ask that you adhere to a few conditions. Please email me for the details: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com
Thanks! :)
Hi Everybody,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the nice comments! :)
These are beautiful photos. Everything here in Ontario is parched too and the grass crunches under foot. I even watered the raspberry bushes yesterday and I've never had to do that!
