Monday Farm Photo: That's Not a Heavy Frost

I Wasn't Expecting Snow Just Yet—But I Guess I Should Have Been

And out of the kitchen came:
Kohlrabi Purée! (yes, this incredibly scrumptious but dowdy-sounding recipe deserves an exclamation mark!)

© Copyright 2008 FarmgirlFare.com, the award-winning blog where we had a freezing Sunday of soppy flakes and a light, powdered sugar dusting of snow last night, and even though once the sun popped out late this afternoon melted most of it off, it was technically still snowing in November. It seems that fall, my favorite season on the farm, is already over.

  1. we woke up to snow yesterday, just enough to make things really muddy by noon, then today, all the brown yucky stuff was white again. We live in Kansas, south of KC by about an hour, not near as rural as you guys, our nearest wal-mart is only 20-25 minutes away. Anyway, the chickens and horses are making due with the new waters, had to change everything over to "heated buckets" this weekend. Good excuse to use up the left overs from Thursday and make a noodle soup. Our's yielded enough for hte three of us with leftovers, yummy. Bundle up, I've a feeling this Winter is going to be cold for a long time, but it's just the kind of weather I like for knitting, especially afghans, which do double duty, end product and lap warmer as a work-in-progress. Cheers, Kathy

  2. Hey Susan,

I hope that You, Joe, Ms.C, and the multitude of the animal (and plant) kingdoms had a great holiday weekend. Isn't this just the best time of year? (well maybe as soon as the kitchen is rebuilt) I give thanks for the canned beans currently taking up most of the music room's floor, and for the freezer that never stopped, despite Hurricane Ike's winds.

  3. We don't have snow here at the beach yet, but they are saying we might see flurries tomorrow. I won't hold my breath. We are going to Alaska for Christmas so it will be a white Christmas for us. Haven't seen more than an inch of snow in years and year. Think I will go into shock? Hope the farm critters are staying warm. I can smell the freshly baked bread right now...

  4. Winter isn't my favorite season - but since in Texas it is the shortest - I'm OK with it. Your pictures of snow are as close as I need to get! brrrr was hoping you'd be moved into the fancy new digs before snow flew.

  5. There's snow on the ground here, too. It does seem a bit early 'cuz it's sticking to the ground - not enough sunshine to melt it. I guess we will just 'Welcome Winter'.

Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  7. Oh, it's over, all right. Excuse me while I crawl into my cave now, never more to be seen until May.

    Sigh.

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
