Do you hang your laundry on a line?
© 2009 FarmgirlFare.com, the well washed foodie farm blog where while many people are already bemoaning the fact that summer (in all its hot and sweaty glory) will soon be over, we're happily counting down the days until we can bury the bed with blankets and quilts and prance around in polar fleece (which is one of the greatest inventions ever).
I bought a clothesline tree, but it doesn't have the stake to put it in the ground and I haven't gotten around to looking for one yet. Meanwhile, I hand the laundry over the field fence by the backyard. Works just fine.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I LOVE hanging out laundry. I miss it in the winter time (though I still hang it...I use a drying rack inside). There's no easier way to be kind to the environment!
ReplyDeleteOf course! I come from a long line of line driers.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, we've had like three weeks of rain, rain, rain and my dryer has been getting a workout.
I don't have one myself, but I borrow my grandmother's next door. We have alternate washing days.
We have an unfinished room above our garage that's right next to our "laundry closet". Until the room is finished we're using it as a clothes drying room - we've strung up several lines and hang our clothes in it. I love it so much I'm convincing my hubby to incorporate hooks into the wall so I can keep laundry lines in there after the room is finished.
ReplyDeleteAmen to the overalls! As a fellow farmgirl, there is NOTHING better to wear (overalls or overall shorts)if you are trying to keep cool.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you, your hubby, and especially all your critters!

I sometimes hang clothes on the line in the warm summer months. I used to do it more often than I have lately. Thanks for a great reminder. I love your photos.
ReplyDeleteYes, I DO hang my clothes out on the line!! Have an awesome day!!
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the list of those that LOVE hanging out laundry. I think it's relaxing and nothing smells better than line dried sheets! I don't even own a dryer - shh, people look at you funny when you tell them that. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest blanket! Great find...
ReplyDeleteJust this summer my husband installed a retractable clothes line for me...and so far I am really liking it. Now I just wish I had MORE room...!
Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog surfing for biscotti recipes. I've bookmarked you and will be back... I'm from not-quite-rural but very-close-to-rural-areas Canada!

Hubs and I have seasonal allergies, so hanging the clothes outside isn't an option. Sniff. Sob.
ReplyDeleteI asked my husband to make a clothes line this weekend. Its Sunday night, he's out cold on the couch and no clothes line! Grr
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't take anything for my clothes line! It has two sets of sheets on it right now! Love the blanket!
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in the Sacramento Valley I used to love hanging our laundry out to dry. Here on the foggy, damp coast however, it's a whole different story; leaving clothes out to dry only makes them more damp, just before the mildew sets in. I do love draping my linens over the lavender and rosemary bushes on a rare sunny day. It makes them smell so good when I open the linen drawer.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do have that -- laundry on a line. Although I may not adore your kind of blankets, yours look good under the bright sun.
ReplyDeleteI wish overalls swould come back into fashion, they are so cute and comfy! That or I need a farm for an excuse to wear them.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fellow winter lover...I am anxiously waiting for that first crisp fall day!! I don't think my LL would appreciate a clothesline but I love the idea. Someday! Until then, I'll live vicariously. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, I also love to hang up, but hate taking down. I hang most of the year but in winter have drying rack and line across my cathedral ceiling and hang inside. I resent if I ever have to use the dryer. We have forced hot air heat and a whole load of sweaters, jeans, and sweatshirts dry overnight if get them up after close the curtains for the neighbors to see and 8pm. It helps the humidity in the house for a short time also.
ReplyDeletewe hang all our laundry out as soon as we can without wearing gloves to do it! there's nothing in the world better than sleeping in a bed made from sheets and quilts hung on the line that day!
ReplyDeleteWell... sometimes.
ReplyDeleteEven though I live in a desert with lots of sun, there is this nasty plague we have here called wind. Not the nice breezy kind that you can sit on the grass and enjoy (besides, that would require grass in the first place). No, this wind is the knock your greenhouse and roof off kind that kicks up the sand and blasts your nice clean clothes with a layer of red grit. So... while it is calm and reasonable I can hang the clothes, otherwise I have to keep them inside and either wait for them to dry in the swamp cooled (read: humid) house or just toss them in the dryer and be lazy. Either one happens depending on how much time I have and how much laundry I need to get done.
