Lucky Buddy Bear is an English and Australian Shepherd stock dog. Daisy is a Great Pyrenees livestock guardian. He adores her—and she's pretty crazy about him, too.

© Copyright 2010 FarmgirlFare.com, the doggone foodie farm blog where this afternoon I turned the corner out of the exam area at our teeny tiny local vet's office (where the doctor is only in on Wednesdays) lugging best cat buds J2 and Patchy Cat in a carrier (they should hopefully both be fine) to find the crowded waiting room packed with a miniature beagle, a newly sheared Pomeranian who looked like a vicious tiny lion, and a 1½ year old, still growing (yet already enormous) Akita. I burst out laughing when I saw them all. Too much dog fun.

Your dogs are GORGEOUS! I had never heard of an English shepherd, and I know a lot of breeds, until my daughter got her last dog magazine and they were profiled. Really lovely dogs and sweet companions!

Sadly, our sweet Lottie pup died from complications after routine surgery in the summer of 2008. You can read more about her here.
We do still have her sister Marta (Hi Chiriohs!), and she's doing great. Her full name is now Marta Beast, and since she is in desperate need of a full body shearing, her nickname is Marta the Mess. ;)
She hasn't posed for a lot of pictures lately, but you can see her back in January here (this post includes links to lots more photos of her), and you can see her and Daisy together here and here.

I wasn't familiar with English shepherds before we got Bear, but they're a really neat breed. Apparently they were popular years ago with some of the old sheep farmers in this area.
Bear is half English shepherd and half Australian shepherd - a much more common breed, at least around here. Except for the splash of white on his chest, he looks almost exactly like his English shepherd mother except he's a lot shorter. : )

Great Pyrenees are wonderful dogs. Of course I love Bear and our smiling, semi retired beagle Robin with all my heart, but there's just something about being able to wrap your arms around a really big dog. :)
Yes, lambs are cute and all, but I still love the dogs best. Especially my (lucky) buddy Bear.
