(Robin hates donkeys. Hates them even more than cows, and she hates cows a lot.)

  1. OK you are killing me with those beautiful surroundings and don't even get me started with that adorable pooch!!

  2. Awww, Robin is adorable! We had an old beagle until a few months ago (he was 15 or 16 when he died, we adopted him at 7 or 8). Old beagles are the BEST dogs. Your Buddy Bear looks a lot like our old shep mix (he had some collie & possibly rottie in there, as well). People mistook him for an English Shepherd even though he wasn't one (he was another pound-dog). I'd love to get an English Shep but I hear they need a job & we need a couch potato dog. Every time I see Buddy pics I'm glad he has such a great environment to live in. Your dogs are SO lucky.

  3. My dog just turned 12 (impossible to believe!!) loves to go out for long walks and check out the 'hood, but he, too, loves to sleep on his pillow whenever he gets the chance (which is all of the rest of the time!)

    Don't we love our doggies!

    Your pictures are so beautiful!

  5. Is that lavender in your backyard? If so you must have a very relaxed beagle.

  6. What beautiful scenery.... and of course a gorgeous pup to go along with it. She must love all that room to romp around in.

On another note.... What is your new animal addition? This is killing me not to know. I am losing sleep over here. lol.
Is it a horse? Or a turkey? Ahhhh.. The suspense is killing me!

  8. Go Robin GO! The picture pretty much defines why dogs represent joy to a lot of us -she doesn't know she is old (er?) and her life rearranges itself to suit current needs and wants. Sounds like a deal to me! Glad Robin keeps those pesky (incredibly cute) donkettes out of the vicinity - somebody has to protect the home place from those loud invaders. I second the question - what IS the new animal??

  9. What a really great looking picture. Beagles are some of the best dogs. At least I think so. Well better pets than donkeys!!!

  10. You gotta love a Beagle! What a great shot.

I love the purple haze. Is that just the hay?

  12. Put me on the list of Beagle lovers. They are the best breed in the world for many reasons, not the least of which is their even temperament around children. I've had a dachsund/beagle mix who was the love of my life throughout my teen and early 20's years, and my current girl in a Borgle: Beagle and Border Collie. She's so affectionate but tries to constantly herd my sons' friends into some semblance of order! If the boys are doing any good-natured wrestling, she barks at them until they stop. Isabelle is great at policing behavior and we love her to death.
It's good to know there are so many beagle lovers out there!

  13. Hi Stephanie (if you're still alive),
We're not trying to kill anyone here! : )

    Hi Anon,
I love that you didn't adopt your beagle until he was 7 or 8. And I love even more that he lived to be 15 or 16. I am hoping Robin is with us that long - or longer. : )

English and Australian Shepherds do need a job, though I did know one urban Australian whose job was playing with a frisbee all day - or I should say getting people to throw a frisbee for him all day. He was very serious about his job, too.

Yes, are dogs are very lucky - and we're so lucky to have them!

    Hi Barb,
I know, where does the time go? I can't believe I've had Robin nearly 12 years already. Which means Bear is almost 7!

    Hi Kristin,
Robin is one of those dogs who always looks happy and content. I'm always reminding myself to think and act more like she does.

    Hi PB,
Oh, how I wish that was lavender! Unfortunately it's just this stuff we call red top that grows all over the farm in summer but isn't palatable to any of the animals, isn't very nutritious, and so basically isn't good for anything except looking pretty in pictures. Not that I'd want everybody sniffing and gobbling up lavender all day. But still. ; )

    Hi DD,
Oh great. First I'm killing people, now you're losing sleep. ; )

I swear I'm not trying to build up suspense - in fact, it's not a very exciting new animal. I mean, we're excited, but it's not a new species. It's just that (besides the fact that for a week or two I literally forgot to put up the post and photos) I need to write up the (unfortunately very sad) backstory as to why we have this new addition and it's going to take a little while so I keep putting it off. I'm also still trying to get some tomato recipes up before November, LOL. I've gotta stop mentioning things in advance!

    Hi Mrs. D
Fluffy puppy report coming soon, too!

    Hi LS,
You put it so well! I don't think Robin knows she's old, or thinks of herself as old. I used to worry because a while back she stopped going on walks with us up the steep half mile driveway and along the ridge above the farm. I was afraid she was sad that we left her behind. But she doesn't think like that. And in fact the other day when Bear and I got to the top of the driveway on our way back down, there she was! She was panting like crazy (I fondly call her my little huff and puff) but had a huge smile on her face. Robin just loves being a beagle, loves being on the farm, and loves every day no matter what she's doing. But she still hates donkeys. ; )

    Hi PC,
Beagles are awesome dogs. I'd never had any experience with them until Robin trotted into my life, but they are just so unique. A lot of people I meet grew up with one and know how special they are. As one friend put it, "They're like a big dog in a little dog suit," which is true!

    Hi Elizabeth,
See above re the purplish grass. That is the hayfield, and we do sometimes end up cutting hay when it's growing, but nobody is excited about eating it. ; )

    Hi Jeanette,
Robin does have that effect on people. : )

    Hi Jane,
LOL, I love that Isabelle (great name) tries to herd the kids! That's too cute. She sounds wonderful. What a great combination of breeds.

  15. We have a happy 10 year old beagle that loves to survey her backyard every time she goes out. Beagles are just so cute and curious! Great pictures!
