Thursday Dose of Cute: You Never Know What You'll Find Inside a Feed Bin
Flying Squirrel, Anyone?
Down in the sheep barn feed room, we've been slowly replacing our plastic feed containers with metal ones, because mice and squirrels tend to chew big holes right through the plastic in order to get to the food, thus pretty much ruining them, although I have successfully plugged some pretty good sized holes with duct tape. (Our entire lives are held together with duct tape—along with clothespins and bungee cords.)

Cary's last dish of treats in the house
I think this one's pretty self-explanatory. What the photo doesn't show is Joe sitting five feet away, shaking his head in disbelief—and me laughing hysterically. He didn't believe me when I said she'd never done this before. What I couldn't believe was how far she'd flung those flakes.

Donkey Doodle Dandy Is Quite The Dainty Eater
Dan is seen here enjoying an alfalfa pellet treat. For months he was forced to share his breakfast, but then it finally occurred to me that if I simply raised the level of his food, the little Cary thief (who eats much faster than Dan does) wouldn't be able to steal it--which is why Dan is standing at this makeshift table. But the other day, in a woolly blur of flying alfalfa pellets and startled looks, I realized that the little thief is now tall enough to reach Dan's elevated treats. Unfortunately I think we are already at maximum Dinky Donkey Doodle Dandy eating height.
For those of you who are wondering about that ratty blue halter (which has now reached a new level of rattiness), read this. And for those of you who are wondering why he is still sporting that pathetic thing--well, I haven't gotten up the guts yet to take it off. And now it's time for another pedicure from the farrier, so I figure I'll leave it on until his visit. And then I'll take it off. Definitely.

A year of Daily Photos ago: Look What Flew Into My Photo
(What a neat coincidence. I was thinking about this very caption last night as I was writing about the dragonflies landing on my photos. I had no idea until just now that I would be mentioning it today.)

Weekend Cat Blogging:
Sharing Your Snack with a Lamb in the Living Room
Don't know who Cary is? Meet her in A Tiny Tail for Mother's Day.
If you are the mother of a small child, you and the child probably spend a fair amount of time in the yard or the park so the child can play in the fresh air.
If you are the mother of a little lamb, you and the lamb spend an inordinate amount of time in the yard or the garden or standing out in a field so the lamb can eat.
If it is 94 degrees in the shade and humid as all get out, neither mother nor lamb really wants to be hanging around outside in the sun. So what to do? Harvest lunch and bring it in the house for your little darling, of course. (I draw the line at peeling grapes.)
Naturally the Queen (as in Reigning Terror) of the Indoors, Molly Doodlebug, aka The Doodle Monster, assumed the nice pile of fresh green grass sitting on the living room floor was for her.
Cary knew better.

This scene almost appears peaceful, but I wouldn't exactly call these two friends. I was unable to capture the hissing, nor do I have photos of The Doodle Monster taking a couple of swipes at Cary when she thought I wasn't looking.

The Continuing Cary Chronicles

Help! I'm being chased by a donkey!

And he's gaining on me!
NOTE: No Carys or donkeys were harmed or frightened during the taking of these photos.
And for those who have been asking how Cary is doing, the answer is just great. Every day with her is a zany new adventure, whether we're tooling around town, hanging laundry on the line, or just relaxing in the living room. Did you notice her cute new bobbed tail? And her right hind leg looks like it was never even broken—and is obviously working just fine!

Daily Farm Photo 6/24/06: Figuring Out How Animals Think

Okay, this I understand. It's the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence thing.

It's this I don't get.
This is her bowl of treats, in her pen, and she knows perfectly well she could just walk right around that panel to reach it.

Oh, I see. It's a llama thing.
