  1. This picture is so beautiful! It makes me pine for my days in the country. Although, I don't miss getting up at the crack of dawn every day!

  4. Hi Farmgirl:
I grew up in a sm. town outside KC and this pic reminds me of my drives to school growing up. Mist over the fields... *awe*

Btw, I made your pizza last night and I am so sorry to tell you that it didn't go so well. I know you said you can't mess it up - but I did!

So here is "How NOT to make a pizza from scratch"...

    1. Had to make the dough the night b4 because I get home from work and my hungry fiance is always ready for dinner. (No waiting for bread to rise - hehe). Well, I only covered it w/a towel in the fridge and it formed a crust which didn't come out in the kneading. Should have put the dough in a baggy or something.

    2. Made the onions which looked carmelized and delicious after 30 min in the pan but burned on the pizza in the oven (10 min cooking time)! Wha?!

    3. Didn't have any good cheese on hand so I tried grated parmesean cheese. Bad mistake. Formed an orange crust over the pizza. (Right now everyone is reading my post shaking their heads at me. That's probaby a basic baking no-no, huh?)

My fiance ate it with a smile. I picked a good guy and a good recipe but wow did that dinner go wrong.

  7. Hi Everyone,
So glad you all enjoyed seeing this photo. It's one of my personal favorites--and one of my favorite views on the farm. But what I find interesting is that many of you seem to think that the word "cool" was somewhere in that caption. Oh, I wish! I don't want to spoil the dreamy scene, so I'll just leave it at that. Wow, I almost have myself convinced that's a picture of a cool misty morning! Soon. . . : )

    Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the farm! Yes, that crack of dawn thing is definitely a necessity--though it's not always easy getting up that early. My favorite thing to do (after I've actually done it, of course!) is to get up when it is still completely dark outside. Everything just feels so nice and quiet, and you have the whole entire day before you. Endless possibilities. The other morning when I got up a nearly full moon was still high in the sky, shining brightly. What a gorgeous sight that was! I took a few pictures of it, but some things you just can't capture with a camera.

    Hi mav,
Oh you're just suffering from a temporary bout of Grass Is Always Greener Sickness. I've seen the gorgeous East Coast scenery you've posted on Port 2 Port. *envy* But then of course you also know there are chickens and a rusty pickup truck somewhere behind the scenes here. . . : )

    Hi Flo,
Oh, it's definitely still summer here! Hope you have a fabulous vacation!

    Hi Cherrybegonia,
Welcome to the farm! (Or at least to the comments section!) Yes, the mist is really wonderful. Lately it's been swirling so thickly around us each night that at first light you can't even see down to the barn. The hills of our little valley completely disappear, and this view across the hayfield is nothing but grey. It's actually quite cozy.

As far as your pizza disaster. . . Oh my. How sad! (But I loved your list.) I do feel kind of responsible, too, especially after I said you can't mess it up. I will write more to you about this in a bit. I sure hope you don't give up on homemade pizza. And definitely don't let that guy get away! : )

    Hi Wendy & Boo,
Thank you for your comments. It's a wonderful feeling to know that one of my photos can have such a postive, physical effect. I think I should put this picture on my bulletin board to remind me to stop and breathe (the post-it note that says "Breathe" just isn't doing it. . .)

    Hi Amy,
Glad to hear it's cooled down a bit there for you. Yep, August is usually the worst month here, too, as far as heat and humidity go. I keep wondering why I don't have gills to help me breathe in this water-filled air. We've been following the path of that hurricane on the e-radar. Sending you safe (and cool) thoughts.

  9. Two things photographers I once knew said (before I was one myself, twenty years ago or so)...

"October has the most beautiful light."

"It's hard to tell if it's sunrise or sunset."

In other words, the slanting light of morning and late afternoon make the most beautiful photographs. Sometimes you can see the morning frost, and sometimes you can see the heat shimmering in the late afternoon.

This photo is good because you cannot tell the difference, unless perhaps you are acquainted with your farm and region.

  11. Hi arc,
    Thank you! : )

    Hi Tana,
It's always so nice to hear from you. I spread the word about your awesome Small Farms blog whenever I can.

Thanks for the compliment and great quotes. I know the first one is true; just yesterday when I looked at a few photos I'd taken the night before of the sunset sky I was surprised because they looked like they were taken at sunrise. As for the second, now I can't wait to see how things look in October!

The light here in the early morning and late afternoon is gorgeous. Click, click, click! : )

  12. Hi Cara,
Thank you. Hmmm. Get paid to take pictures? Wouldn't that be wonderful!

So glad you didn't get flattened by yet another hurricane. : )

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
