Doll Face & Her Baby Boy

10 comments:

  1. What's he looking at? Doll face looks positively "unruffled". She's old hand at caring for youngsters I bet.

    Have a great day.

  6. Is that a tear in her eye... her little boy, ready to see if the grass on the other side is greener still..

  7. Such ears !!!! Are you sure it isn't a baby donkey? (oh, when will you have one of those, my all-time favorite animals ?) If it can help you (you do seem a little overcrowded), there is place for him in my garden, or my bedroom, or on my couch, and I will positively delight in petting him all day long - unless you send over a baby donkey of course.

  8. Hi Heather,
I don't know what he's looking at. Baby lambs are very alert--always checking things out. You're right--it takes an awful lot to ruffle Doll Face (like breakfast being late). : )

    Hi Jeff,
That's cute--he does look like he's camera shy.

    Hi Abe/Happy,
We don't usually give the boys names, but most of them do end up with nicknames, like Slash for the two white "slashes" down the sides of his face--not the ear. He did that later.

    Hi Vickie,
I know I've said it before, but it really is amazing how fast they grow. They still look tiny until a new one is born. Then I start thinking the new one is way too small but it's not. What is always fun to see is the difference between the woolly moms and the sheared moms. We'll probably be shearing in the next month or so, and suddenly the babies will be about 2/3 the size of their coatless mothers!

    Hi Sunidesus,
Thanks. It's one of my personal favorites (and not just because I love Doll Face so much). I like the size comparison between her head and his little body (and the fact that he's looking away).

    Hi Baking Soda,
That's sweet. It's not a tear in her eye (she's just always had dark spots where those glands secrete whatever it is they secrete--waxy stuff), but it certainly looks like one.

And yes, the grass is definitely greener on the other side, as the mothers and mothers-to-be are still locked in the barn and barnyard, living on hay (the boys are on the loose, but that's another story that I promise I will get to soon).

I'm just grateful we locked them up and started having lambs early this year when the spring grass was nowhere in sight, because Doll Face's favorite hobby is to stick her head through the woven wire fence to reach the grass on the other side. Then her head swells up or something because it gets stuck. One year I must have pulled her (while she was pregnant with twins) out of the fence 25 times. Now most of the barnyard is double fenced, but she could find a place to get stuck if she wanted to!

    Hi Rachel,
We definitely do 'adorable' well around here. : )

    Hi Anna,
Oh those ears are nothing compared to some of the other lambs, LOL (scroll down to the third photo, and btw, he has grown into them. : ).

Oh my, Donkey Doodle Dandy has a lot of fans (in fact, a fan club is sort of in the works), but I don't believe anybody has ever offered him their garden, bedroom, and couch before. You are definitely over the edge! (In a good way, of course.)

Yes, we have mulled over the idea of getting Dan a girlfriend for some time. It was put on the back burner when the llamas came to live with us, but we are back to thinking about it again.

I was surprised that Joe was all for the idea in the first place. "Well, at least we'd have something to sell then," he said. And then I stupidly replied in the outloud voice, "Like I'd ever sell a baby donkey!" That kinda put a damper on the donkey hunt. : )

    Hi Kat,
    I love it.
